Southern India - Magical Kerala

Introduction

Scenic Spice and tea plantations and extensive and fascinating backwaters best describes the idyllic coastal state of Kerala. Its easy going ambience and lovely people make everyone very welcome…

Your trekking challenge is centred around the Western Ghats of south-western India.
Known locally as the Sahyadri Hills, this is one of the 34 Bio-Diversity hotspots of the world!! Kerala’s famous magical spices and Ayurveda with its curative powers is inextricably linked to the endemic and rich biodiversity of these very eco systems. All spices and herbs were first discovered from deep within the very forests you will be trekking through – it is here the enduring relationship between man and nature evolved….

Your trek will also take you through Periyar tiger reserve. Periyar is a well monitored National park and home to one of the most successful ecotourism projects in India. Altogether 62 different kinds of mammals have been recorded in Periyar. The most famous is probably the tiger, - 35 to 40 tigers inhabit this sanctuary. Though it's titled a tiger reserve, one of the major attractions undoubtedly are the Indian elephants numbering around 1000. Your challenge offers you the opportunity to both trek through this incredible park and camp in the heart of the Jungle - all under the watchful eye of our expert trackers! This promises to be a truly magical experience…
