Mount Kilimanjaro
Introduction
Close to Tanzania's border with Kenya, snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest peak in Africa and its most recognisable landmark. It is also perfect for a trekking challenge - the summit is a difficult but achievable climb, and the rewards are spectacular. It also combines perfectly with a safari extension, when trekkers can relax, and where the only challenge is spotting Africa's famous 'Big Five'.
Don't miss
- The unparalleled sense of achievement in conquering a continent's highest peak
- Superb views of the plains of Tanzania and Kenya
Kuoni can create charity challenges to incorporate the Rongai Route, fast gaining in popularity and considered relatively easy with drier climbing conditions on the northern side and sweeping views over the Masai lands, or the more difficult Machame Route, following natural rather than man-made paths and including the Shira Plateau, Barranco Wall and Karanga Valley as highlights. The Shira Route can be also arranged, but should only be attempted by physically fit climbers already acclimatised to the altitude. Please call for more details and advice.
Challenge Grade: Extreme (see DESTINATIONS homepage for full explanation)
